Fiberon N.C. Facility Explosion Injures Four

Explosion at Fiberon’s New London facility injures four, prompts multi-agency response and federal investigation.

Fiberon’s New London, N.C., manufacturing facility, which produces composite decking, railing and cladding, sustained damage when an explosion occurred around 5:58 p.m. on September 12, according to county officials. 

Four people suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the incident. All employees were safely evacuated, and fire crews worked overnight to manage remaining hazards.

The cause of the blast is under investigation by multiple agencies, including the Stanly County Fire Marshal’s Office, the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the North Carolina Department of Insurance, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

Fiberon did not immediately provide comment on the incident.
