The North American Deck and Railing Association (NADRA) honored its 2025 National+ Deck Competition award winners on Jan. 8 in Clearwater Beach, FL.

With more attendees, award entries, and advertisers than ever before, Bobby Parks, who helped judge the winners, and co-host the event, says this 16th annal deck awards ceremony was the best one so far. “There was increase across the board,” he says.

Brendan Casey, Casey Fence & Deck LLC, Frederick, MD., who won two awards (1st place Alternative Deck $36k-$70k and 2nd place Inlay) adds the bar has been risen again in the industry. “What didn’t win this year, five or 10 years ago, would’ve been the number one project. It’s come so far.”

Casey notes AI and new technologies have allowed builders to be creative and artistic, and has enabled them to render a beautiful picture and turned that rendering into what he calls “outdoor art.” “Now we’re bending, curving, creating a flow of a deck, as if it’s moving.”

Overall winner for the night was Dr. Decks’ Kiki project, that, according to Dr. Decks’ owner Jason Russell, used all of Russell's 35 years of deck building experience, particularly his deck board-bending expertise. He told NADRA that to create this “one off work of art,” his team had to create new ways to apply their standard methods to new exterior products.

In Parks’ estimation, Dr. Decks’ project “was possibly one of the top 10 projects ever entered into a NADRA competition.”

Sparta, N.J.-based Deck Remodelers, led by Sean McAleer, brought home 10 awards. Parks notes Deck Remodelers has “figured out how to scale high quality to an extreme level without diluting it.”

In addition, the Recognition Award was awarded to Greg Groenhout in honor of his retirement. Greg served the industry for 36 years at National Nail. The Terry Award was presented to Heath Bowman.
