After decades of service to his country, Roseville, CA., veteran Raul Maldonado now has a new outdoor space to call his own. Through the “Deck for a Vet” initiative, Trex Co. partnered with Sacramento radio station KNCI-FM and local contractor Deome2 Builders to design and build a custom Trex deck where Maldonado can relax, entertain and enjoy time with his family year-round.

The project stemmed from a Veterans Day 2025 promotion hosted by KNCI-FM, which invited listeners to nominate deserving area veterans by sharing their stories of service. Among the many nominations received, Maldonado’s story stood apart. Nominated by his son and grandchildren, he was selected in recognition of his service during the Vietnam War and his unwavering dedication to his family.
“Projects like ‘Deck for a Vet’ show what can happen when communities unite with a shared commitment to giving back,” said Emily Moore, district manager field sales for Trex Co. “At Trex, we believe outdoor spaces can create opportunities for connection, reflection and renewal. Raul’s story is a powerful reminder of the dedication and sacrifice demonstrated by so many veterans, and we’re honored to help recognize his service by creating a space where he and his family can relax, reconnect and enjoy time outdoors for years to come.”
For Harley Deome, co-owner of Deome2 Builders, the project was especially meaningful. Knowing Maldonado personally, Deome welcomed the opportunity to help honor his longtime friend through the initiative.
“I’ve known Raul for more than 35 years, so this project was incredibly personal,” said Deome. “I never fully understood everything he experienced during his military service until this project. It was an honor to recognize a longtime friend in a way that reflects how much he means to so many people.”
