526 Media Group, the parent company of Deck Specialist, and the leading independent B2B media company serving the lumber, building materials, and construction industry, has appointed Nate Traylor Managing Editor of ARCHITECT. Traylor will lead ARCHITECT’s website, newsletters, and editorial direction as 526 Media Group works to revive and grow the brand. He reports to David Koenig, VP, Editorial.

Traylor has covered design and construction for more than a decade, beginning as a newspaper reporter in Montana. He spent six years as a senior editor at Hanley Wood, where his work earned a national silver award from the American Society of Business Publication Editors, and later led content teams at the digital marketing firm Scorpion. He returned to the Hanley Wood brands in 2022 and has reported for ARCHITECT on projects ranging from Toronto’s first supertall tower to affordable housing in Seattle’s Central District.

Traylor will work alongside Paul Makovsky, who continues with ARCHITECT in the strategic role of Editor at Large. One of the most respected editors in architecture and design media, Makovsky has led ARCHITECT as editor-in-chief since 2021, keeping the brand at the center of the profession’s conversations through his interviews with leading architects, his Studio Sessions with design experts, and his service on juries. He previously spent more than 18 years at Metropolis, rising to editorial and brand director and vice president of design, and served as editor-in-chief of Contract.

Makovsky has also recently joined Marvel Architects as Director of Communications, Business Development, and Cultural Programming. Marvel is an award-winning architecture, urban design, and planning practice with offices in New York, San Juan, Barcelona, Washington, D.C., and Richmond, Va.

As Editor at Large, Makovsky will remain closely involved in ARCHITECT’s key projects, editorial, events, and awards programs as 526 Media Group carries out its plan to dramatically grow the brand's presence and influence across the industry.

“I’m excited to continue contributing to ARCHITECT at a pivotal moment in its evolution while taking on a new leadership role at Marvel,” said Makovsky. “These roles offer complementary perspectives on the profession—one through journalism and critical dialogue, the other through architectural practice, collaboration, and cultural engagement. I look forward to helping strengthen the conversations that connect architecture to the broader world.”

The appointment follows the promotions of David Koenig to Vice President, Editorial, in August and Joel Walters to Vice President, Operations, in November, and continues 526 Media Group’s investment in the people behind its brands.

“ARCHITECT built its name as one of the most important publications in the profession, and we intend to bring it back,” said Patrick Adams, CEO of 526 Media Group. “That starts with an editor who lives in this work every day. Nate already writes for ARCHITECT, knows its readers, and understands the firms it covers. Putting the brand in his hands is the right first step.”

“Nate pairs a reporter’s instincts with real respect for the design community,” said David Koenig, Vice President, Editorial. “He knows how to find the story inside a building, and he knows how to get it in front of the people who need to read it. I’m glad to have him leading ARCHITECT’s next chapter.”

“ARCHITECT has been part of my career for a long time, and it’s a privilege to help lead its next chapter,” said Traylor. “I want every story we publish to give architects ideas they can use and projects worth talking about. I’m looking forward to working with firms across the country to tell those stories.”
