Saying Goodbye to Marv Johnson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marv Johnson unexpectedly on Aug 4, as shared with us by his wife Angela.

Marv was an integral part of Deck Specialist magazine as a regular columnist sharing his favorite industry tool reviews with our readers, as well as an industry spokesperson, having recently participated as a panelist during our second annual Deck Specialist Symposium in July.

Born and raised in Northern California, Marv began his apprenticeship as a member of The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, Local #152. After working with A.D. Seeno Construction, he became a carpenter foreman and a project superintendent.

His later moved to Washington to be closer to extended family after his daughter was born. It was there that he started DeckEnvy LLC, in Gig Harbor with a focus on six-figure outdoor living projects for discriminating clients.

He told Deck Specialist that on a lark he sent the editor of Deck Specialist at that time, David Koenig, a brief email and they struck up the first of many conversations. He penned his first review in the very next issue of Deck Specialist magazine and “never looked back.”

Cheers, Marv. You will be greatly missed.
